What is/was the criticism of the Electoral College?
The problem with Electoral College is that it is not a true representation of the public, and is just a needless formality. The idea behind it is that there is supposed to be an equal ratio between Electors and the population. The problem is, who the Electoral College elects has a possiblity of not truly representing what the population wants. There is also what we call "Faithless Electors". These are electors that have a duty to vote for the candidate the population the represent voted for, but they instead vote for the opposing (reasons could be they were bought or personal beliefs).
