I'm a singer/songwriter and need a little help on recording with garageband.?

Let's take "Hey Lady" by Thriving Ivory as an example, and I want to make something similar. Piano at the beginning, drums and synth-strings building up before the chorus, which elements with a strumming guitar. Now my question kick's in, the second verse. I tried making my verse likewise "catchy" but it seems that something's missing, and I don't get that hook feeling. Any tips on what I should do?
